Marilyn M. Kavanaugh

–  10/04/2020

Marilyn M Kavanaugh nee Devereaux of Plainfield, formerly of Villa Park and Joliet, unexpectedly went home to God on Sunday, October 4. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 61 years, James, her children Kenneth (Cathleen), Christopher (Christine), Matthew (Cynthia), Maureen (John) and Coleen as well as grandchildren Michael, Daniel, Kelly (Michael), Kevin, Colin (Olivia) and Austin and great granddaughters Ayden and Mila. She is further survived by sister Susan (Michael), Paul and Eugene. She is preceded in death by daughter Kathleen, parents Robert and Gertrude Devereaux and brother Robert.

Marilyn graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee where she made lifelong friendships that endured to this day. Beyond being a mother and super volunteer at Montini Catholic High School and St. Alexander parish, she worked for many years at Elmhurst College in the registrar’s office.

Marilyn will be missed for her unique ability to welcome all people into her heart and home as if they were part of her family. She could bring anyone out of their shell with her warmth and empathy. She taught by example how to be compassionate and loving towards others as she truly lived out the Catholic faith that she loved so much.

Marilyn loved to read and share her love of reading with her book club, playing bridge with the ladies, traveling and spending time with her family. She was always open to new experiences, especially if a glass of wine was part of it.
