John ” Jack” Cassidy
John “Jack” Cassidy (March 14, 1923 – May 16, 2020)
Jack Cassidy, 97, passed at his home in Burr Ridge on May 16th. He met his soul mate, the late Anne (nee McGovern), at a USO dance, and they were married for 64 years until Anne’s death in 2011. Loving father of Tom (Charlene) Cassidy, Sue (Bob) Ecker, the late Rick (Cindy) Cassidy, Anne (Dick) Drolet, Nora (John) Hanlon, Joyce Kane, Carol (Ed) Novak, and Marilyn (Tom) Gotsch. Adored grandfather of 26, and great grandfather of 24. Esteemed uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend of many. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph P. and Nora (nee Spillane) Cassidy, as well as all his siblings and spouses Joseph (Rita) Cassidy, Anna Cassidy, Thomas Cassidy, Mary Cassidy, Mary Rita (Ed) Nelson, Robert (Anna) Cassidy, William Cassidy, and Theresa Cassidy. A member of the “Greatest Generation,” Jack was a veteran of World War II. He served in the 70th Cavalry Recon Troop, which saw combat in France and Germany. He was an active member of the Villa Park VFW Post 2801 participating in their many events like the Memorial Day Flag Ceremonies and Fourth of July parades. He would spend hours on Thanksgiving Day at the VFW “feeding the troops” from Great Lakes Naval Station. Jack also enjoyed hosting his family at the York High School Veteran’s Day Pancake Breakfasts, where he was asked to his first “Senior Dance”.Additionally, he volunteered at several area schools for Veteran presentations, enjoyed dancing, and big band music. Until earlier this year, Jack was an avid golfer and recorded 5 hole-in-ones.
A virtual celebration of his life is being planned for Sunday, May 31st, at 2:00 PM. Please contact Nora Therese at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
