George H. Ferris
George H. Ferris 92, of Villa Park, IL. WWII Navy Veteran. Beloved husband of the late Beverly. Loving father of Michael (Anne). Fond brother of Quincy Jones and the late Lloyd Jones. Uncle and great uncle of many. After being honorably discharged from the war, George worked aboard train in passenger service, running between Chicago and various points on the west coast. Some of his early assignments found him running through a very rural Villa Park at speeds of 80mph during the late 40’s early 50’s. Little did he realize as the 70’s approached, that he would meet the love of his life, Beverly who was a long time resident of Villa Park. They would meet by chance on a bus, as George was now working for West Towns bus Company as a bus driver. He had left the railroad industry after many years of service, as passenger service was on the decline throughout the country. They would be married in 72’ and have their only son, Michael in late 74’. They planted roots in Villa Park for many years, and would grow to be part of the fabric of the surrounding area. Along with working for the railroad, George was an avid model railroader. He belonged to a number of clubs within the area over the years and was a founding member and president of Wagon Masters Railroad club, located in Elmhurst. He was quite the model builder, mostly building trains that he had worked aboard in his youth. He continued to model well into his 70’s, as both he and his son enjoyed the hobby together. As the years rolled along he and Beverly continued to share in their love of music and movies together. With the loss of Beverly in 2011, he relocated to Montgomery, IL to be closer to his son Michael and his wife Anne.
