James G. Thon

James Glenn Thon Sr. passed away on May 27, 2017. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 2, 1923 to parents William Gustav Thon and Jane (Glenn) Thon. He is predeceased by his wife Elizabeth nee Parker Thon, a sister Margaret Thon Simpson, a brother William G. Thon, a grandson Jonathan Thon and a great granddaughter Aubrey Noelle Presar.

Mr. Thon attended Hatch Elementary and Oak Park High Schools; Followed by the University of Illinois and DePaw University, where he was a member of the football team, also attending the University of Southern California for his Masters Degree. He served in the United States Navy V-12 program during WWII at Great Lakes.

James Thon began his teaching career at Arlington Heights High School in the Physical Education Department and later taught Driver Education at Proviso East High School in Maywood, IL. For 30 years. He finished  at Triton Community College River Grove IL. teaching evening Adult Driver Education Courses. He was past president of the Illinois High School and College Drivers Education Association, member of Theta Xl fraternity at the University of Illinois, longtime resident of Elmhurst, IL and later Somonauk, IL and sang in the West Suburban Veterans Chorus and a life member of the Elmhurst Methodist Church,

Beloved father of Marijane (Deane) Presar, of Harrison Township, MI., James Glenn (Peggy) Thon Jr., of Villa Park, IL and William Parker (Cindy) Thon of Hinckley, IL. Grandfather of Kerry Thon, Catherine Yager, Amanda Biskup, Sarah Thon Franco, William Thon Jr.,James Presar, David Presar, great grandfather of Brooke and Mason Yager, Ella, Parker and Connor Biskup, Hector, Lorenzo, Sabrina and Benicio Franco; Kiley and Landon Presar; Andrew, Alana, Ava, Alexa and Adelena Thon, uncle of Stuart, Russell Anderson, Gail Redding, Holly Smith, cousin of Hugh Glenn.
