Diane C. Malone (McLaughlin) 74 years old, of Lombard, formerly of Addison. Born on June 15, 1942 in Chicago, IL. At rest, January 7, 2017, in Lombard, IL. Beloved wife of Glen Malone. Loving mother of Jim (Melissa) and Dr. Cindy Malone (Dr. Mike Teitell). Beloved grandmother of Ben and Lily Teitell. Fond sister of Joe (Carol) Chambers. Dear sister-in–law, cousin, aunt, and great aunt of many. Predeceased by parents Vera Pugh (1993) of West Virginia and Harry McLaughlin (1965) of Chicago, and brother Gale (Marie, 1976) Chambers (1994) of Lombard.
Diane grew up in Lombard and attended Glenbard West High School graduating 1960. She was set up on a blind date by best friend Marge Clawson (Malone) on April 4, 1958 with Glen Malone at the Rollarena on Bloomingdale Rd. Glen was worried he’d fall on her and squash her! He called Diane the next week, got very nervous, and told dirty jokes and limericks to her. How romantic. On their next date, Glen blurted out “We are going to get married one day!” Diane just laughed. They were married six years later to the day on April 4, 1964.
Diane was a teacher throughout her life, officially and unofficially. She played teacher to her pets as a child on their farm, especially for Big Fat Hen, an injured chicken her Mother Vera nursed back to health that continued to live with them in their house, Mickey the cat, and Bozo the dog. Diane earned her B.A. in Elementary Education at Northern Illinois University in 1964. After college, she taught 5th grade at Lincoln School in Villa Park until son Jim came along. She returned to teaching as a substitute teacher in about 1980 and secured a Special Ed Tutoring position in the Resource Room at Marquardt Middle School soon thereafter. After earning her Master’s degree through night courses in Reading Education in 1987, she began teaching English and Remedial Reading at Addison Trail High school. After she’d had enough of high school students, she began teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) at the College of DuPage. When Grandson Ben came along in 2002, she retired from official teaching and became a volunteer ESL teacher at Addison Library for flexibility to visit California and baby Ben. She continued to teach ESL and Bible study through 2012.
Additionally, Diane spent a great amount of time volunteering her time at Craft Elementary School as a Room Parent and PTO board member, and at St. Paul Lutheran Church as a Sunday School teacher, Bible Study Leader, and Financial Secretary.
Diane loved Teaching, Tutoring, Reading, Bible study, Baking, Family, Dancing, Bargain hunting, and spending time with her Grandkids.
