Joe, son of Joseph L. and Stella (Gruby), grew up in South Dakota along with his two brothers, where he gained his passion for the outdoors. He instilled this passion in his children and grandchildren along with the importance of family, friends, and faith. You could find Joe behind the camera lens getting the perfect photo, waterside going after the one that got away, patiently sitting in his deer stand, or softly reading a story to his grandchildren. As a former Eagle Scout, Joe believed in giving back. He was a proud 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and founding scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 199 in Villa Park. His involvement with the scout troop extended well beyond his sons tenures in the troop. Joe saw the humor in things and enjoyed spinning a good campfire story. His kind heart and dedication to those he loved will be greatly missed.
Joe wanted his giving spirit to extend beyond his earthly time, and asked that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the “St. Therese Scholarship Fund,” noting the gift is “In memory of Joseph P. Gilles.”
