Terence C. Mullen

–  01/09/2015

Terence Charles Mullen, age 59, of West Chicago passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday January 9, 2015. He was born on July 8, 1955 in Elmhurst, Illinois, the son of Marvin and Mary Mullen. Terry graduated in 1973 from Willowbrook High School after an accomplished wrestling career (go Warriors), and later attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He went on to earn his J.D. cum laude, from Drake University. Terry began his career as a solo practitioner before opening his law firm, Mullen &Winthers, alongside close friend Dave Winthers in 1987. He enjoyed a successful career as a family law attorney and was a longtime member of the DuPage County Bar Association, serving on their executive committee. He retired from his law practice in the spring of 2014 after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor and received further accolades from his beloved DCBA later in the summer. His passions included golfing with his sons and grilling steaks with his daughter, Chicago sports, the VFW Post 2801 in Villa Park, Portillos hot dogs, chocolate chip cookies, The Three Stooges, history books and a dog named Wally. While Terry’s life was full in career and hobby, his heart and soul was only complete when he was with his family. He maintained friendships that spanned his lifetime and made new friends with nearly everyone he met due to his charming smile and warm embrace. Terry was inspirational in his battle with brain cancer and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife Nada; beloved children Shannon (John)Bernard, Willie (Lindsay) and Sean; treasured grandson Benjamin; devoted mother Mary; partner-in-Stooge brother Tom (Judy); nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins; colleagues and countless friends. He joined his father Marvin “Doc” in heaven and we are certain they are enjoying a round of golf together. Family will receive friends Monday, January 12, 2015 from 4-8pm at STEUERLE FUNERAL HOME, 350 S Ardmore Ave, Villa Park. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 11 am at Community Fellowship Church, 28W240 North Avenue, West Chicago. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the VFW Post 2801, 29 East St Charles Rd, Villa Park 60181.
