For all of you who knew and loved Babe, the letter “B” basically defined his life and connections with others. He was born to Belgian parents and raised in the Belgian neighborhood of Chicago, where he wooed and wed his grade school sweetheart, Harriet. He was a BOMBADIER in the Army/ Air Corps during WWII and had the opportunity to travel with Honor Flight Chicago to Washington DC in 2013. He later owned and operated Warning Lites of Illinois for over 30 years where he manufactured, rented, and sold BARRICADES and other traffic safety equipment. He was also one of the founders of the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA). The business was his livelihood and provided for his family, but his true passions in life were BICYCLES and BIG BANDS. He rode his bike daily and even completed a 100- mile ride on his 80th birthday. He enjoyed the six-day bike races in Belgium and loved following his nephew’s professional cycling careers. Babe played in numerous bands throughout his life, stating in the Army and continuing when he lived in Villa Park, Huntley, and Sanibel Island. As a devoted musician, he seemed to always find other talented band members and the time to play.
