Robert C. Lindhorn, age 91, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on November 11, 2014. Robert was born to Leslie and Marguerite (Cregier) Lindhorn on July 4, 1923 in Chicago, IL. Robert’s family later relocated to Goshen, Indiana where he attended junior high and high school.

A World War II veteran, Robert enlisted in the Army in April, 1943. He served in the Army Air Corp as a crew chief sergeant and was stationed in the Philippines where it was his job to keep the planes flying. After his discharge from the Army, Robert attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. It was there that he met his wife of 67 years, Mary Ellen. They were married on July 12, 1947 in Warrensburg, Illinois. Robert graduated from Northwestern in 1949, the same year that his first son, Clifford, was born. Upon graduation Robert received a teaching position in Findlay, Illinois. Two years later, in 1951, his second son, Phillip, was born. Robert took an opportunity to relocate to the Chicago area in 1952 when he received a position as a math educator at Morton High School in Berwyn, Illinois. He was a faculty member at Morton, eventually becoming the division head for math and science, until his retirement in 1985.

The family lived in Brookfield and Cicero before Robert and Mary purchased their home in Villa Park, Illinois in 1956. They lived there until the late 1990’s. Robert was involved with several organizations. He served as a trustee at Community Congregational Church of Villa Park, he was also an active member of the Villa Park Masonic Lodge and the Berwyn Lions Club. Robert enjoyed a wide variety of activities. He was a gardener and cared for a beautiful rose garden in his backyard. He picked fresh roses for Mary every summer morning – the house always smelled wonderful. Robert and Phillip both got their pilots license at the same time. They belonged to a flying club from York High School and flew small planes. Robert also enjoyed other outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and golfing. Travelling was another thing that Robert loved to do. In 1974 he took a sabbatical from school and he and Mary traveled around the world. They went to Europe, Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand on that trip. There were several other trips abroad with friends over the years, as well as many family vacations! For many years Robert and Mary resided in Mesa, Arizona for the winters.
