Villa Park, Ill. James W. “Jim” Panter, Jr. died Monday morning, September 8, 2014 in Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Jim was born August 7, 1935 in Struthers, Ohio a son of James Walter Panter, Sr. and Edna Allen, who was a descendent of Revolutionary War hero Ethan Allen. Raised in Struthers, he had lived in Cleveland, moving to the Chicago area then to Villa Park in 1967.
He was a 1953 graduate of Struthers High School. He worked at General Extrusions in Youngstown and in construction with the Arnold Company in Cleveland. He then worked in the printing industry where he found his career.
In 1960, his brother Charles founded Associated Data Forms in Oak Park, Illinois where Jimworked with him. In 1972 Charles founded Midwest Graphic Industries (MGI) with Jim operating the manufacturing division that printed the multi-part business forms His brother designed and sold to many major companies as well as to DuPage County. In 1983 Jim purchased Midwest Graphic Industries (MGI) from his brother serving as President until his passing.His sons Scott and Jeff have worked with him in the operation of the company which they recently moved to Bensenville, IL.
He was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association, attending the annual conventions with his lifelong friend, Dan Becker, with whom he shared a love of guns and shooting. And, even though he was an almost fanatic Cadillac owner and supporter the two of them enjoyed a Mercedes tour of Germany. He was a member of the Maywood Sportsman’s Club where he was an avid target and trap shooter with his son David.
He leaves his wife the former Nancy Stock, the love of his life, whom he marriedOctober 19, 1955; three sons; Scott (Susan) of Villa Park,David (Margie) of Glendale Heights, IL and Jeff of Villa Park; a sister Wanda Lou Young of Struthers, Ohio; grandchildren, Johnathon, Michelle, Amanda (Joseph Proud), Abigayle (Jason) Adkins and Austin and a great granddaughter,Aubree.In addition to his parents his brother Charles W. Panter, a sister Mildred Yost and a brother in law, Tom Young are deceased.
Friends may call Friday September 12, 2014 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Steuerle Funeral Home 350 South Ardmore Avenue, Villa Park, IL 60181 where funeral services will be held Saturday September 13 at 11:00 AM.
