Nicholas Stimetz

Nicholas Stimetz, of Lombard, Illinois, died on June 2, 2014 at the age of 96. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Rhineland Central European Theater, was decorated with the American Theater Service Medal and the Good Conduct-European African, Middle Eastern Service Medal. Prior to enlisting in the war he worked for the Civil Conservation Corps building the lodge at Starved Rock State Park in Illinois. He worked as a meat cutter, was a member UFCW, fed birds, enjoyed following and discussing politics, built model trains, worked with stained glass creating stained glass windows, dreamed of building, a perpetual motion machine, read his Bible and prayed the rosary daily. He loved his family and his Catholic Church. Nick was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Rose (Butterly) his parents John and Mary Fortuna Stimetz, his sisters Mary and Josephine and his brother John; Nick and Mary Rose were parents to four children, Maureen (Stephen) Swanson, Francine (Craig) Anderson, Eillen (Dirk) Glass and Tom (Vicki) Stimetz. Nick and Mary Rose had many grandchildren and step grandchildren; Frank (Lisa) Marlovitz, Bridget (James) Koefelda, Kathleen (Brad) Cooper, Sascha (Colm) Cahill, Lucas (Sarah) Swanson, Joseph (Michelle) Gurak, James Gurak, Jill (Bryan) Chapman, Nate Anderson, Jesse Anderson, Joel Anderson, Brian (Genevieve) James, Julie (Brad) Appelhans, Mallory (Alex) Mammoser and Kevin (Liz) Glass; Nick and Mary Rose loved their 16 great grandchildren. Nicholas was born in Chicago, moved with Mary Rose to Franklin Park in 1948 where they lived until they moved to Wheaton in 1989. Following the death of his wife, Mary Rose, in 2004, Nick moved to Lombard where he was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Avenue, Villa Park, IL. Funeral Thursday, June 5, 2104 9:15 a.m prayers at the funeral home with procession to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 114 S. Elizabeth, Lombard, IL for 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.
