Matina Pellegrini nee Koutouzou, age 84, passed away peacefully and gracefully at her daughter’s home, surrounded by family on December 18, 2013. She was born in Chicago on June 28, 1929, to Greek immigrants Nicholas and Dimitra Koutouzou.
She was always very proud of her Greek heritage, speaking Greek to anyone who even looked Greek, or owned a restaurant.
As a young adult, she loved dancing at the many dancehalls in Chicago with her girlfriends, even winning a few jitterbug contests. Other hobbies that she loved were rollerskating, horseback riding, and travelling.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Al Pellegrini, and they raised their four children which blossomed into many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Matina had a very colorful personality. She could be quietly outspoken, somewhat sarcastic and leaving people never knowing what she would say next. She definitely did not feel the need to keep her thoughts about someone or something to herself, often being very entertaining for those who were around her.
She leaves her four children, Debbie (Bill) Clarke, Glenn Pellegrini, Patty (Dave) Pellegrini-Fogler and Corinne (Rick) Pesavento; her nine loving grandchildren, Chris (Marisa), Danny (Olivia), and Billy Clarke, Joey Pellegrini, Melissa Peterson-Erickson, Russell Peterson, Lauren (Jason) LoCoco, Nikki and Jessica Pesavento; and her six precious great-grandchildren, Faith, Seth, Eden, Ava, Kendall and baby Dylan. She is also survived by her dear sister Lee and brother-in-law Tommy Skouros.
She was preceded in death by Alvin, her husband of almost 51 years, her sisters Pat and Helen, a precious niece Nikki and nephew Ronald, and many loving cousins.
