Sarah M. Pantano, 98, passed away January 3, 2013 at the DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton, IL. She was born January 7, 1914 to Sicilian immigrants Guiseppe and Dominica (LaPorta) Pantano in Chicago. She had a lifelong devotion to her faith and family. Sarah had an infectious smile, always giving more than she took. She loved growing and drying flowers and herbs, winning many contests she had entered. She loved history, and spent time volunteering with the Lombard Historical Society, sharing her knowledge of herbs, flowers and their true essential oils and the preparation and serving of “High Tea”. She loved Chicago, working many years at V L & A, better known as Abercrombie & Fitch, and for a time at Rosenbloom & Assoc. in the Wrigley Bldg. She also worked for DuPage County, at the Treasurer’s Office, Circut Court Clerk’s Office Child Support Division and Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division.
Sarah is survived by her nieces Marjorie (Bob) Barch, Connie Jo (Larry Roach) Pantano, Josephine (late Lawrence) Caccippio, Claire (Brad) Raso, her nephew Joseph (Liz) Affronti and four additional generations of great nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Russell (Josephine Affronti) Pantano, Frances (Michael) Genovise, Rose (Charles) Affronti, Joseph Pantano, Anthony Pantano, Samuel (Susan Stroh) Pantano and Michael (Marge Schmalz) Pantano.
Visitation on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 3-8 p.m. at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Avenue, Villa Park, IL. Visitation Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space, 300 S. Cornell, Villa Park, 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass 10:00 a.m. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
