Nicholas Lee Van Hoose
Nicholas Lee Van Hoose, 75 of Venice, Fl, passed away on Tuesday June 7, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.
Nicholas was born on March 4, 1936 in Wheaton, IL to Wendell and Carol (Frega) Van Hoose.
In 1960, Nick married Lari Lamb, a fellow classmate from York High School, Elmhurst, IL. They had two boys, Jeffrey and James. They were divorced in 1978.
Nick attended Elmhurst College after high school. In 1964, his career in the packaging industry began. Subsequent jobs, in corrugated and plastics offered him a background and an opportunity to join The DuPont Company’ Distributor Sales-Film Division in 1968. After 22 years he took early retirement in 1990, to join Unisource Corporation Packaging Division. In 2002, he retired to end a fun career and 38 years in the industry.
At his 25th high school reunion he had the good fortune to see and begin to date classmate, Marcia (Felz) Prehn. They were married in 1983, and settled in Lombard, IL, joining their families. Nick now had four stepchildren to add to his family, Beverly, Barbara, Bonnie and Robert. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, which he enjoyed and treasured deeply.
Nicholas and wife, Marcia traveled the globe during their 28 years of marriage. They moved to Venice, FL in 2003, where Nick was able to enjoy golfing year round. They became members of the Elks organization, which has recognized Nicholas for his dedicated volunteerism and community service. He was instrumental in the transition from the former location to their new facility, as well as, managing and growing all banquet functions. In high honor, the main ball room has been named “Van Hoose Hall”.
Nicholas is survived by his beloved wife Marcia, Sons Jeffrey and James Van Hoose. Stepchildren Beverly (David) Kebrdle, Barbara (Stephen) Larsh, Bonnie (Michael) Fiorito, Robert (Jacalyn) Prehn. His brothers David (Cathy) Van Hoose, Gerald (Karen) Van Hoose, Grandchildren Elizabeth, Andrea, Gina, Matthew, David, Daniel, Natalie, Jonathon and Kevin. Great grandchildren Emily and Connor.
Nicholas will be remembered for his love of family and many friends, his enthusiasm for life, his kindness, and loved by all who knew him.
